Mojang removed the ability to give AI goals to mobs that don't naturally
have those goals (like attacks on passive mobs). So, yes, if you put an
attack goal on a passive mob, your server will crash.
You can still make those mobs move towards players and have them
"attack" using skills. A more common approach is to disguise a hostile
mob as a passive mob using Lib's Disguises.
Passive mobs types (sheep, pigs, cows, Etc.) are unable to attack any entity as the base mob does not have the ability to deal damage. In older versions of Minecraft, this behaviour may crash the server, while on newer versions the mob simply vanishes. The best way to work around this is to use a hostile mob type (such as a zombie), and disguise it as a passive mob type using LibsDisguises.

How do I make "caster" mobs that cast spells instead of using melee attacks?
This will slow the mob so it stands still and "casts" the projectile
spell skill to shoot a projectile spell.
The best way to go about doing this is using a projectile casted onTimer. A more thorough example can be found on the wiki page for [Projectiles](https://git.lumine.io/mythiccraft/MythicMobs/-/wikis/skills/mechanics/projectile).
